Common Questions
Have any questions about our coaching?
Here are answers to some common questions about our services and methodologies.
What is the purpose of business coaching and how does it work?
Business coaching is a collaborative relationship between a coach and an individual or team. It involves guiding clients in setting and achieving their professional goals. By providing valuable insights, accountability, and strategies, a coach helps individuals and teams tap into their full potential.
How do I get started?
Assuming you already have an idea of what you want to get coaching for, simply contact us to schedule a quick call to see if there is a good fit in what I can do and what you need.
Do you do your coaching in-person or virtually?
Although our initial conversation may be over the phone, I do prefer to meet my clients in person. We can meet at a mutually agreeable location or your place of work, it’s up to you. The first 15 minutes of travel time from downtown PDX are included in our fees. If transit time is an issue, meeting virtually is always an option.
How often do you usually meet with a client?
Depending on what is being coached on, usually once a week or once every other week works best. For coaching related to strategy building or presentation prep, a more frequent cadence for a shorter period of time will be best.
How long is a typical engagement?
I’ve been both a mentor and mentee when the coaching relationship extends past its useful life span and becomes more of a “check-in” than continued skill building. I recommend to most folks that coaching should last between four to six months before re-evaluating an extension of services. This keeps both you and I accountable to our goals.
How will I be able to tell if the coaching is working?
One of the first things we’ll do is create a “coaching contract” that outlines the types of skills that you want to develop and documents a shared understanding of how we’ll quantitatively, and more likely qualitatively, track your progress. You probably won’t need this document though to see the change. Most of my clients admit to seeing a different in just a few weeks in how they feel about their work, colleagues, etc.
As part of my coaching services, I’ll also reach out to your peers (with your permission) to gather feedback on your behalf. I usually like to do this at the midpoint and end of our engagement to help guide us.
What are your rates?
My rates are both project and skill-dependent. Coaching for a one-off strategy session facilitation will be different than for a long-term coaching contract with an individual. Contact me with your needs and we can come up with a proposal that meets your budget.
Do you offer any sort of guarantee?
Absolutely! If after the first few coaching sessions, you’re just not feeling it., we’ll tear up the contract, no questions asked (although feedback is a gift!). If we get through the first month of meetings, then I ask that you pay 50% of my contracted rate to compensate me for my time. You can cancel your coaching at any time.
For other engagements, like presentation prep or strategy facilitation, if you aren’t completely satisfied with my services, you’ll also only be billed for 50% of the contracted rate.
Didn’t see your question answered above?
Reach out to me! Even if you’re not currently thinking about professional coaching, I’d love to know what’s on your mind. Remember, feedback is a gift…
